Cycling along Union Canal

Here is my freedom on wheels - a lovely red bike.

Billy bought it years ago and it has been stored at back of the garage flat-tyred, very sad and in want of a cheerful spin in the fresh air.  We had it worked on and put back to good health.

Last weekend's weather in Falkirk was full of lovely sunshine.  It was a perfect time to take the bike out for a ride along Union Canal.  This canal and pathway runs from Falkirk all the way to Edinburgh.

I decided to ride in the opposite direction and take the path from Redding Road to the Falkirk Wheel which is roughly a 10 mile return.

Here are some of my photos on Sunday 21st October.

My bike at the path entrance from Redding Road.  You can see the canal in the background.

Another view from Redding Road.  I take the path and head under this bridge.

Another bridge - there are many more ahead.

Union Canal.

This is the longest tunnel.

I can hear voices...something is heading my way.

It's got lights.

A barge - how wonderful.

Railway line to Glasgow.

The Glasgow Queen Street Station train.

Entrance to the Falkirk Wheel.  Notice says path will be closed 5th November to 1st December for canal maintenance work.

Santa's Grotto.  Didn't expect that!
